Background
Grand Theft Auto VI is Rockstar Games’ next mainline entry in the GTA series — the long-awaited follow-up to 2013’s Grand Theft Auto V. The game is set in Leonida, a fictional, Florida-inspired state built around a modern-day Vice City, and follows two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, marking the first time a woman has shared equal billing as a lead character in a mainline GTA game.
Rockstar revealed GTA 6 in December 2023 with a trailer that broke online viewing records, originally targeting a 2025 launch window. A second trailer arrived in May 2025 alongside the game’s first delay, and in November 2025 Rockstar confirmed the new release date that’s still standing today: November 19, 2026. If you’re also keeping an eye on everything else launching around it, our guide to the biggest upcoming games of 2026 rounds up the other major Xbox Game Pass, PS5, and Switch releases sharing the back half of the year with GTA 6.
What We Know
On June 18, 2026, Rockstar reignited the hype with the official GTA 6 cover art — and confirmed that pre-orders would open one week later, on June 25. That announcement finally answered the questions everyone had been asking for months: how much GTA 6 costs, what’s actually in the box, and where you can buy it.
“All Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders and purchases before November 20 will get the Vintage Vice City Pack, a collection of items that flash back to when the neon burned brightest.”
Rockstar Games — Newswire, June 25, 2026Rockstar confirmed two editions only — Standard and Ultimate — sold through digital storefronts and physical retailers worldwide.
GTA 6 Price: Standard vs. Ultimate Edition
Here’s exactly what each edition includes and what it costs in the US:
Both editions launch November 19, 2026 — there’s no separate Collector’s Edition.
| Edition | Price (USD) | What You Get |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | $79.99 | The full single-player story following Jason and Lucia through Leonida |
| Ultimate Edition | $99.99 | Everything in Standard, plus exclusive premium vehicles, weapons, and apparel |
Both editions are available to pre-order right now and launch on the same day. If you’re not sure which one is worth it, you can buy the Standard Edition and upgrade to Ultimate later, so there’s no rush to decide today.
Is There a GTA 6 Collector’s Edition?
Short answer: not yet, and maybe not at all. Unlike GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, which both eventually got physical collector’s sets, Rockstar has only announced the Standard and Ultimate digital/physical editions for GTA 6. There’s no steelbook, map, or merchandise bundle confirmed. If you’re holding out hope for one anyway, our roundup of best upcoming collector’s edition games tracks which 2026 releases already have one locked in.
Physical Copy, Platforms, and Where to Pre-Order
GTA 6 is launching as a single-player game only, with no online mode mentioned for day one. It’s confirmed for PlayStation 5 (including PS5 Pro) and Xbox Series X|S — and that’s it for now. Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC version or a Nintendo Switch 2 version, though both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 eventually made it to PC well after their console debut, so a PC release further down the line wouldn’t be a surprise.
If you want a boxed copy, know that it ships with a download code instead of a disc. Digital pre-orders unlock a head start, too: preloading begins on November 12, 2026, a week before launch, so the game is ready to play the moment it unlocks.
You can currently pre-order GTA 6 through the PlayStation Store, Xbox/Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store, and select retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and Walmart in the US.
What Pre-Order Bonuses Do You Get?
Every pre-order — and any purchase made before November 20, 2026 — comes with the Vintage Vice City Pack, themed around the neon-soaked 1980s era of the franchise. If you pre-order digitally, you also get one free month of GTA+, Rockstar’s membership service, which you can use right away in GTA Online and other classic Rockstar titles.
GTA 6 Age Rating and Verification Rules
GTA 6 hasn’t received an official ESRB rating yet — that typically happens closer to launch. But based on the franchise’s history, expect an M for Mature 17+ rating in the US and a PEGI 18 rating in Europe. Every mainline GTA game has carried the top adult rating in both systems, and nothing about GTA 6’s trailers suggests that’s about to change.
Separately, a few countries — including the UK and Australia — have introduced age-verification laws for games with online multiplayer. Since GTA 6 launches as single-player only, this mainly affects the existing GTA Online (which keeps running alongside GTA V), not GTA 6 itself, unless Rockstar adds an online mode down the line.
How Much Did GTA 6 Cost to Make?
You’ll see the number “$2 billion” everywhere, but Rockstar and Take-Two have never confirmed an official development budget. The most credible analyst estimates — cited by outlets like Business Insider, IGN, and PC Gamer — put cumulative spending somewhere between $1 billion and $2 billion, with some estimates running higher once marketing is factored in. Whatever the exact figure, GTA 6 is almost certainly the most expensive video game ever made, well ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2’s roughly $370–540 million budget.
Community Reaction
Reaction to the price reveal has been a mix of relief and grumbling. Plenty of players braced for a $100 standard edition after months of leaks and retailer placeholder listings, so $79.99 landed better than expected — even with the $10 jump over the usual $69.99 AAA price point. The bigger complaint across Reddit and X has been about the lack of a disc in physical copies and the absence of a true Collector’s Edition, with longtime fans pointing back to the steelbooks and bonus content that shipped with Red Dead Redemption 2.
What’s Next
With pre-orders open and the November 19 release date locked in, expect Rockstar’s marketing to ramp up heavily over the summer — likely more screenshots, possibly another trailer, and eventually the first hands-on previews for press. Digital preloading opens on November 12, 2026, giving players a full week to download before launch.
Official ESRB and PEGI ratings should land sometime closer to release, and pricing for regions outside the US (UK, EU, Canada, Australia, and others) is still being confirmed market by market, so it’s worth checking back if you’re outside the US.
If the wait until November still feels long, there’s no shortage of other big releases to fill the time. Our guides to upcoming Capcom and Square Enix games and the best upcoming RPGs of 2026 cover some of the other major titles landing on PS5, Xbox, and PC before GTA 6 arrives.
