Star Trek MTG Commander Decks, Release Date & Full Card List (2026)

Star Trek is finally boldly going where no Magic: The Gathering set has gone before. Wizards of the Coast has confirmed the full lineup for Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek. And yes — Commander decks are part of the mission.

The crossover celebrates 60 years of Star Trek. It pulls characters, ships, and stories from every era of the show into Magic’s card game. Below, we cover the release date, the four Commander decks, the biggest spoilers so far (including Captain Kirk), and how to pre-order before the set launches on November 13, 2026.

Background

Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek is part of Wizards of the Coast’s “Universes Beyond” line. This line brings outside franchises into Magic’s card game, like Lord of the Rings and Fallout. The set was first announced at MagicCon Atlanta in 2025. The timing lines up with Star Trek’s 60th anniversary.

The set doesn’t focus on just one show. It pulls characters and stories from the whole franchise. That means cards from the original 1960s series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and beyond.

What We Know

Wizards of the Coast confirmed the release date, the products, and the first wave of cards. This happened through an official preview article and a livestream called WeeklyMTG. The set has three codes: TRK for the main expansion, TRC for Commander-only cards, and SDS for special “stardates” cards. The SDS cards are legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage.

The set brings three new mechanics:

• Federation — This gets stronger the more different creature types you control. Borg creatures don’t count toward it.
• Dilemma — This gives you a bonus whenever you choose a mode on a spell or ability.
• Assimilate — This is a Borg ability. It lets you steal a creature, or put one into play. Either way, that creature becomes a Borg artifact creature.

The set also brings back two mechanics from last year’s Edge of Eternities set: Spacecraft and Station. There’s also a Landfall theme running through the original-series cards.

The Four Commander Decks Explained

Each Commander deck is built around a different faction and a different era of the franchise:

• Federation Fleet (Jeskai — blue/red/white): Led by Captain Picard, this deck leans on the Next Generation, Voyager, and Deep Space Nine eras, with a “seek out card draw, charge your starships” game plan built around the Spacecraft mechanic.
• Landing Party (Bant — green/white/blue): Led by Spock, this deck is themed around the original series and uses a Landfall strategy that rewards playing lots of lands.
• Klingon Fury (Mardu — red/white/black): Led by Worf, this is the aggressive deck of the group, built to swing wide and disrupt artifacts and enchantments.
• We Are the Borg (Esper — white/blue/black): Led by the Borg Queen, this deck focuses on artifact creatures and stealing your opponents’ creatures using the Assimilate keyword.

Signed Headliner Cards and Collector Boosters

The chase cards of the set are seven Headliner cards. Each one shows a classic Star Trek character. Each card is hand-signed by the actor who played that character, including Captain Kirk and Captain Janeway. Wizards says only around 200 copies of each signed card exist. You can only pull them from Collector Boosters.

Community Reaction

Reaction from Magic and Star Trek fans has been mostly positive. People like that the set covers the whole franchise, not just one show. There’s also plenty of debate online. The Federation, Klingons, and Borg each got their own Commander deck. But fans of the Romulans, the Dominion, and the Ferengi are hoping to see those factions show up as cards too, even without their own precon deck. Collectors are especially focused on the signed Headliner cards. These are already being tracked closely, since the print run is so limited.

What’s Next

Expect a steady stream of spoilers between now and launch. The STLV: Trek to Vegas convention (August 5–9, 2026) is a confirmed major preview event. Wizards will also keep updating its official Card Image Gallery as more cards get revealed. Full Commander decklists should land closer to launch. The set arrives on tabletop on November 13, 2026, and on MTG Arena a few days earlier, on November 10, 2026. Pre-orders are already open at local game stores, TCGplayer, and Amazon.
